A Weekend in Prato, Tuscany ::::::

Here are some photo moments from the first weekend of December.

A weekend in the city of my housemate's origin.

A weekend of sleeping in a very bohemian-decorated house of a world-travelling photographer, her father, whose awards and published works were haphazardly strewn everywhere-- wordlessly inviting me to explore the lands he has trekked, second-hand.

A weekend of starting out not being inspired with photography, and ending up seeing such details around me that captured my freaking soul.

Sofi's best friend Caterina and me and Sofi in Fiesole-- the hillside town perched next to / overlooking Florence/Firenze. We stopped there before winding up a mountain road to a traditional Tuscan restaurant that was also accompanied by an incredible view of scattered lights far below. The second photo is of Sofi, the next morning in the middle of the street...

Sofi's reflection (()) Her father's playwright awards, photography awards, and a printed poster for Italia's Day of Women with one of his photos on it...

One of Nino Ceccatelli's world travelling photos...

These are some of my favorites... especially the water reflection on the right, accompanied by a sprig of autumn leaves.

Sofia Ceccatelli.

The bohemian Ceccatelli kitchen and a Prato Citta Osteria sign road-side.

Me in the fontana-ed Piazza Communale.

Looking through a mirror (()) The Nativity with a lit hallway beside it...

Alongside the Prato river...

The Duomo (()) A not-so-ordinary house.

The bridge. (()) A view of the Ceccatelli hall.

Construction and Creation.

Nature in the middle of construction.

In the morning of the second day, Sofi took me to see the castle-- the sight I was most excited about seeing. But, we got there, and my entire body was drawn to a small (in comparison with the castle) monument / statue on the other side of the street. There is something about the strength of the man's stance and gaze, and something about the woman's response.

I literally feel like I have to take photos of my feet on earth-- and on pieces of earth that are significant for that particular city or town. It's so strange to think that this corner of the world is 'home' for me.

These are some tiles of collage. Shots of the Duomo-- of wall art-- of door bells-- of Piazza Communale fountains-- of stickers on telephone poles-- the art of the everyday Prato.

More collages of a Duomo by night and by day-- of bridges-- of reflections-- of birds-- of kid art-- of a wreath in a window with the Prato towers reflected-- of an address that matches my age in this season of life.

The last series of collages is the arrow of 'continuing on'-- the seat of rest aside a river in motion-- and the big picture view of Piazza Communale with all its spired window frames.
This weekend was more than a weekend away-- more than a weekend finding out where Sofia is from-- and more than an opportunity to discover new towns (also Fiesole and the mountains)-- ... it was a weekend of really SEEING. Seeing all of the above, but seeing so much more than the facts / the face value. Seeing history (cultural and personal) and seeing beauty (natural and human).
Cheers to Prato, Tuscana and Nino & Sofia Ceccatelli.
Cheers to history and story-- being oneself in this messy world.
