The Moon and The Guitar and me.

I'm literally sitting on the steps to the Duomo-- the piazza of which I have posted photos on here before. My laptop is on my lap-- my legs stretched out on the descending steps-- my pinstriped jacket warming my torso-- and my dinner, a bag of popcorn recently popped by yours truly, on the step beside me. Three college-age girls are chatting it up on the steps beside me. In Italian, of course. Groups of old men, Africans, Sri Lankans, and a few couples are resting on the benches opposite me in this piazza. The candle-flickers of Cafe Concerto are so asthetically pleasing even from afar. The moon-- almost completely unveiling its brilliance and comforting face is in view over the corner of the piazza where the live jazz band is playing. Sax. Flute. Drums. Piano. It's all very subtle and very rich.

Can I just say, how strange it is to be in a different time zone than so much of the world right now? How strange it is to be sitting beneath this face of light (the moon) and for the rest of the world to be sunglassed and illuminated by day. Although I am THOROUGHLY enjoying this moment in my solitude, I wish it was shared by more...

It's 21.21. Yep. 24 hour time on this end of the world.

Me and my housemates are going out for a drink at 22 (10:00). There’s this little bar around the corner from our house that’s my personal favorite. It’s called Fusion. It’s lit really nice—candles, of course, but also with chandeliers—all vintage… the whole place is decorated in black and a deep wine red. So classy. There’s tables outside too with umbrellas—intimate little sitting spots—and inside there’s candles and plants lining the deep, thick framed windows. There’s even a flat screened TV in the back. They were playing some random romantic comedy when I was there last.

I visited a music store today. I was taking an afternoon nap (aren’t they THE BEST?) and awoke to the simple strums of a guitar in the piazza below. I am aching for music these days. There’s too much going on in my soul to not be able to express it somehow with melody. I wandered through the little narrow streets behind my piazza and found the music store I had seen some exploration days ago. A grey haired, not-too-smiley, but so kind nonetheless man helped me try out guitars. It’s the only way I can play music. Pianos aren’t transportable! However, I did meet a fellow shopper who also was a pianist and he told me the name: Suzanne Ciani and her albulm “Pianissimo II”—I guess she’s from San Francisco. Anyway, his playing the piano, and then me jumping on for a bit too, was such LIFE for me.

I will return next week to buy one that’s coming in… and a 10 euro case that I can throw around my shoulder and take to the park as I learn how to put the strings to use. So I thanked the man and his little distracted wife and went on my way... to return. I will return.

There's so much going on that all I can do at times during the day-- when I have free moments-- is listen to Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars" and Blink 182's "The Adventure" and Phil Wickham's "Grace" and India Arie's "The Heart of the Matter". SO MUCH. Yeah, I think too much, but I guess I'm learning to FEEL and really feel what I feel for the first time. Thinking is always a constant but thinking and feeling at the same time is ... yep: way too deep for this moment of moon and Duomo steps and this chilly night wind.

Ok. Chi vidiamo a dopo. :) Ciao. Buona notte.

On my way to work... I always carry my camera... and there's these elementary school kids with their teacher-- drawing the architecture opposite on the Via Emilia...magic. Magic.

Not tonight's moon. One about two full moons ago. Above my very own piazza-- from my balcony view. Tonight's moon-- far more moving-- began its rise with layers of blue clouds -- linking up with the colors of the lit Duomo and the streetlights as they their transition of illuminating blue light to golden light. I was on my bike-- just having finished a lesson (at 7:30ish)-- eyes to the skies as I tried to not crash into cars. :)
