red hair and revolution flair <><<<<<
the first time i streaked my hair, about 4.5 years ago,it was because of a boy.
this time around,
it's because of me.
red streaks are lighting up my face-- some black too to mix it up-- and it's fitting timing because i've been thinking about revolution. :) red's kind of the color of that stuff, isn't it. no, not in a nazi or communist sense. generally. generally, ok! :)
sometimes when life stops whirling, you reel for a bit before focusing again. i'm grateful to be in the aftermath of the reeling. it's been over a year that i've been rethinking what path i'm taking. path as in mentally/morally/politically/spiritually/vocationally/time-wise/beyond...
moving picture images have always been a medium for me for change-- changes in perspectives, values, life-plan trajectory, definitions, etc. have often been impacted greatly (either propelled or instigated) by film. it's always stirred my pot.

yesterday, i was watching tlc's fashion show 'what not to wear' (second though in my book to queer eye for the straight guy. love that show.). the episode was sprucing up a girl about my age who had great desire to impact education circles. she teaches 8th grade. when she talked, she was accessibly chill but definitely had a sense of purpose about her that was really unavoidably impacting. footing and focus. i turned to my mom who was beside me at the time and said-- i have a feeling that this next year will help me focus in a bit more on what purpose is all about-- all over again. yes, it's been a question mark at every junction. why is there a hannah mello on this earth and what can i do with my unique thumb print to contribute somehow? now it's time, with this evolved brain and heart of mine, to revisit the issue.

last night, i saw 'step up'. i am a lover of films about dance and multi-cultural relationships. it's a blast and definitely a part of my experience. in the film, on a really relevant, approachable level, the characters in it were living very culturally normal lives. lives based on their context. they made decisions in the film to transfer their daily foundation-- from their context to their identity. instead of being who their context determined, being who they were-- regardless of context's complications, pressures, or obstacles.

this morning, i saw 'an inconvenient truth'. a film i have been wanting to see, but thought i missed until i saw it was still playing at a cinema down the lane. PLEASE SEE THIS FILM. it brought all facts and perspectives to the forefront that every man and woman of this generation must address and give their lives to. not just the facts on the environment and politics, but the perspectives on humanity as a whole-- human kind as residents and coinhabitants of this place. that social construct opens up so much.
along with the website (linked above... it's www.climatecrisis.net) and the melissa ethridge song, this particular quote was left with me as the film ended.
"old habits + new technology = dramatically altered consequences"
the formula had to do with our habits of warfare-- although applying to consumerism generally as well. it stuck with me because i'm VERY PASSIONATE about the uniqueness of this slice of history and being alive in it. i really have a sense that this world we're living in, in this generation, has never existed before for any other generation. i've blogged about it before... this world of psychology (a relatively new and newly accepted science), technology, medicine, and beyond beyond. i care about being WISE in this slice of history and moving with others that are actively working towards the same goal.
there's been several revolutionaries that have gained the popular spotlight these days. unfortunately, the consumer market has made bobbleheads and t-shirts and all kinds of senseless knicknacks 'in their honor', but they can't be reduced to that level. galileo galilei. ernesto che guevara. gandhi. the historical jesus christ (note: not the popular or religious or christian culture face). check out this bank of many unknown names and legacies.
i guess i'm learning from the surfers these days i have left
living one mile from the famous surfer cove known as 'the hook'.
the surfers know waiting well. just as they know currents well.
the surfers know waiting well. just as they know currents well.
they're always seen waiting for the incoming current to catch them.
or rather, waiting to catch IT.
it's time for us-- me and this group of humans known as 'this generation' -- to acknowledge our context and yet, choose to be ourselves-- regardless of context's complications, pressures, or obstacles. i have great hope in the potential of every unique thumbprint on this earth. i believe solemnly and passionately that, if we are ourselves soulfully-- focused on the needs of this world, that we each and all can make the kind of impact that will collectively bring the tides of needed change.
i guess, i'm building my life as a house right now...
and this house's address is 23. :)

after posting all this, i'm a bit overwhelmed by how serious i am :) and all these connected dots. :) i guess it's a bit heavy-- isn't it? a bit intense? yep. reading it over, i feel overwhelmed by it all too. :) i guess there's a time though for inconvenient truths. so, here goes this blog's posting anyway. :) cheers to intensity. :)

Word. Great quote. New Technology for what purpose, right? Progression without application of wisdom (the why and how to use it) is a dangerous thing. This is giving a power to those who would abuse it. Glad to see you're blogging too. Mind if I link ya?
